Antiwhaling battle shifts from high seas to supermarket shelves

Dear Greenpeace Activists,

My name is Shane Rattenbury and I am the Southern Ocean Expedition Leader on the Esperanza. As we leave the Southern Ocean and take the battle against whaling from the high seas to the supermarket shelves, it's been great to know that there are Ocean Defenders working with us from around the world! Everywhere people are signing up to be an Ocean Defender - please sign up now if you have not already - simply by adding your name you can make a difference! Sign up now!

We are now calling on everyone who cares about ending the whale hunts to use their consumer power to send a strong message to the fishing companies that finance the whaling industry

While we continue to pressure Gorton's and Nissui, we're opening a new front with Sealord, a New Zealand-based fishing company that is 50% owned by Nissui. Sealord sells to seafood distributors all over the world, and we'll be targeting products that whalers profit from wherever they're sold. If you haven't already done so, please take action now to tell Sealord to use their influence to help end whaling and to persuade Nissui to end the hunting of whales. Stay tuned to new opportunities for you to get more involved as campaign develops.

VICTORY IN ARGENTINA!

A popular seafood company in Argentina, Pesquera Santa Elena was using Nissui fish in its products. In just 2 days, over 21,000 Argentine cyberactivists contacted the company and downloaded stickers to place on Santa Elena products in super markets, to highlight that the company was implicated in the killing of whales.

We now have a signed commitment from the president of Santa Elena not to buy any more surimi from Nissui. The company even committed to donate about US$60,000 to an organisation working on whale conservation if they ever violate the agreement. Public support made all the difference.

TAKING ON THE PIRATES

The Esperanza will continue on our year long journey to Defend Our Oceans: please join us as we take on the pirates illegally fishing in the Atlantic. Please spread the word by sending this email to all your friends.

For the oceans,
Shane Rattenbury

Southern Ocean Expedition Leader

Change Hewlett Packard
Change Hewlett Packard
"Change" is one of Hewlett Packard's expensive advertising slogans. But on eliminating toxic chemicals HP refuses to change. Many of its competitors have committed to phase out toxic chemicals in their products. Electronics containing hazardous chemicals often end up as toxic e-waste dumped in Asia and taken apart by hand in dangerously polluting conditions.

HP claims to be an industry leader, so write to HP boss Mark Hurd and ask him to ensure HP doesn't stand for Hazardous Products!
