This Earth Day, Help
Save the World's Biggest Salmon Fishery from Mining
American Rivers Names Alaska's Bristol
Bay watershed as one of America's 10 most endangered rivers -- due to
proposed mining development
Dear Citizens\' Initiative,
Alaska Governor Frank Murkowski, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management
(BLM), and a small group of mining companies plan to develop a major
mining district -- including plans for North America's largest open pit
gold and copper mine -- in the headwaters of the Kvichak and Nushagak
rivers.

Please
take action to oppose these mining projects!
These rivers form the heart of the Bristol Bay
drainages, and support the largest and most productive wild salmon
fishery in the world. The proposed mining district would produce a
perpetual risk of toxic runoff – threatening the health of nearby
communities, potentially decimating the fishery, and poisoning wildlife.
Because of the dangers posed by these mining proposals,
American Rivers today (4/19) declared the Kvichak and Nushagak, and the
rest of the Bristol Bay watershed as the one of the nation's ten most
endangered.
Please
click here to send a message to the Bureau of Land
Management and other decision-makers opposing this damaging project.
Sincerely,
Alan Septoff
